Rufus Hound? That Rufus Hound? YES, exactly that one. Celebrity Juice star and comedian Rufus Hound knocked on my door and to make it even better: brought me a brand new shiny laptop. It doesn’t get better, does it?When I entered Windows’ “Your PC Mate” competition, I did not even dream about winning a new laptop, but I thought I’ve got nothing to lose and entered. Three days later I was working through my emails, when an new message with the subject “Congratulations. You’ve been selected to win a new PC with Rufus Hound” popped up in my inbox. I couldn’t believe it and instantly started dreaming about skyping, tweeting and blogging all at the same time – something I would have done already, if my old laptop hadn’t decided to go on strike whenever I wanted to prove how good us women are at multi-tasking. Must have been a male specimen. My new laptop is clearly a women: shiny, a multi-tasker by definition and every so quick. It’s amazing that I do have a laptop now that can actually keep up with my pace. You wouldn’t believe what a motivational boost this has given me for my blog.
But let me tell you a bit more about the whole “having a celebrity sit on your sofa” experience, because I guess that’s what you will all be interested in. Before the Windows team and Rufus arrived, I was absolutely dreading to be filmed but hey, you’ve got to take a punch, if you are a getting a free laptop in return, don’t you think? I normally hate having my picture taken, so being in front of a camera and a professional video camera at the same time seemed like my personal nightmare on Elm Street for me. However, I have to admit that everyone was absolutely lovely and made us feel very comfortable. Amy, who had slept only 3 hours the night before, abosolutely loved having so many people around her and was surprisingly smily considering that every normal baby would have been whingy and moany being that sleep deprived – this girl follows after her daddy and loves an audience it seems. Or maybe she just liked sitting on a celebrity’s lap? Usually, she likes flirting with people from a distance but yesterday, she happily sat on Rufus’s lap for about 10-15 minutes and pressed buttons. Just imagine how excited she’ll get when we are skyping with nanny and grandad without them turning it to massive balls of pixels because the computer can’t handle it all. I can’t wait to give them a call.
After all the filming was done (Rufus basically demonstrated for the camera what my new HP Pavilion dv6 can do), he also gave us a copy of his brand new DVD (you know what we’ll be watching at the weekend) and took the time to chat a bit about being a daddy who works in show biz. He even showed Amy his favourite video on YouTube, the Captain Vegetable song from Sesame Street, and sang along to it – of course, I didn’t tell him that I can’t stand Sesame Street – Amy might have liked it and vegetables should slowly but surely make their way into her diet.
To sum it up: We had a fab afternoon and once again, would like to thank all the Windows team behind the #YourPCMate campaign and Rufus for making this such an unforgettable day – definitely one for Amy’s scrap book!
#YourPCMate is giving away free PCs in Manchester on 10 November, Birmingham on 22nd November and Southhampton on 29th November. Join the competition on Facebook or send a tweet to @WindowsUK using the hastag #YourPCMate – I’m the best example that everyone can win.
