We are claiming our bedroom back

We are claiming our bedroom back baby in own room baby in our bed

Everyone tells you that, if you’ve got a child, it is important for them to go into their own bedroom at some point to make sure that both you and baby get undisturbed sleep. Well, with Amy and her sleep is for losers attitude we didn’t even get undisturbed sleep, we got none at all. I was regularly up 10 times a night ¬†and at some point it all got so draining that we started a little experiment. I moved into the living room for the night – even uncomfortable sleep on the sofa is better than no sleep – and Ben started bringing Amy to bed and spend the night with her. We saw amazing results during the first night and have never looked back. The baby that didn’t sleep had changed her mind and now sleeps a whopping 12 hours every night.

Before, we left for Germany, Amy and Ben still slept upstairs in our bedroom while I was snoring away (I don’t actually snore, I just breath heavily) in the living room, but we have now decided that as soon as we are back, Amy will go into her own bedroom while we reclaim our bed and privacy. To me it all feels like a massive step, so I want to celebrate this new milestone for Amy and us with a make-over of our bedroom.

I’m not quite sure what style we will go for as I have a couple of ideas in my head, but I have hit Pinterest for some serious research and have come up with three different styles that I like: a maritime style bedroom, a neutral style bedroom and a Scandinavian style bedroom.

I would like our bedroom to be grown up but not boring, bright and airy without looking sterile and most of all I want it to be a place where we can relax and recharge our batteries.

And what is more relaxing than a new bed? I have been checking Bed Star Direct and a couple of other website for comfy beds, mattresses and some new bedside tables, but boy, there is way too much choice out there, so I thought I ask you for advice before going on a spending spree and maybe getting it completely wrong.

What is the most important thing for you when deciding on the style of your bedroom? What is an absolute bedroom no-no and what makes the perfect bedroom for you? Let me know and maybe leave a link, if you have blogged about your bedroom. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

I think a good bed or at least a good mattress is key. I used to think any old mattress would do, but after getting fed up of uncomfortable nights sleep on a mattress inherited from parents and spending nights on blow up beds or kipping down on the floor in just a sleeping bag when staying at friends, you realise it's not good for you and you sleep so much better in a nice comfy bed.
