Let’s not kid each other, we all use convenience food from time to time. There are only so many hours in a day and with Christmas just around the corner, time to cook every single meal from scratch is sparse. Luckily, the people behind Gourmet Tonight got in touch and asked, if they could send me a hamper with goodies and some of their new sauces.
The hamper came with a fab crock pot, two John Rocha serving bowls, a jar of Gourmet Tonight’s new tomato, red wine & smoked paprika sauce as well as some new potatoes, a clove of garlic, an onion, a pepper and a bottle of red wine. Also included was a recipe for Andalucian Lamb Casserole, which I couldn’t wait to try out.
Unfortunately, our local supermarket was sold out when I sent Ben to grab some diced lamb, so I followed Helen’s foot steps and substituted the lamb with chicken. I browned off the diced chicken in a frying pan, added half an onion and the diced pepper and filled the mix into the crock pot before stirring in the Gourmet Tonight sauce.
I oven-cooked the mix for about 40 minutes at 190C and popped the pre-boiled potatoes in at the same time. For some added flavour, we added some rosemary sticks to the potatoes and a couple of cloves of garlic. And this is what the finished result looks like…
Pretty yummy, don’t you think? We really enjoyed the tomato, red wine & smoked paprika sauce. It was flavoursome, didn’t taste artificial at all and was much healthier than the takeaway we’d probably turn to when we’re in a hurry or too tired to cook from scratch. At a price of £1.69 (Morrisons), they’re great value too, so we’ll definitely get some of the range in for lazy days.
Disclosure: We were sent the hamper above to try out the new Gourmet Tonight sauces.
