Yey! It’s nearly Christmas, I’m as excited as the kids. One thing guaranteed to get most people in the mood Christmas songs. I thought I’d share some with you today as if, like me, you find yourself surrounded by never ending to do lists and mountains of wrapping paper it pays to step back and have a little sing song to remind yourself not to take it all too seriously. So here’s what I’ll be singing today:
An old fashioned one:
Ah Bing, you’ve hit the nail of the head with this one. A picture perfect Christmas.
A traditional one:
I don’t usually go to church during the rest of the year so for me dozens of people bundled up in scarves braving the cold to belt out some hymns together is an exclusively Christmas activity. This one is particularly good to really get stuck into even if you’re as bad a singer as I am.
A party tune:
Another one where a good singing voice is not required, just bags of enthusiasm and possibly a glass of sherry.
The perfect Christmas song:

For me, this final song perfectly captures what Christmas is all about, so much so that it makes me cry every time. My family live all over the place and Christmas is the one time of year we get to see each other so, while the cynical side of me objects to the crazy commercialisation and I don’t really get it from a religious point of view, I love that Christmas gives us that opportunity and, just like Tim Minchin expresses in the song, I hope my kids grow up with the security of that big annual family get together to look forward to.
If these don’t get you ready for the festivities then nothing will (but do feel free to share your favourite songs in the comments). Have a wonderful Christmas. X

Ah, some true classics. I do love belting out Hark The Herald Angels at midnight mass. I also love ‘Santa Baby’ as a dance-around-the-kitchen-while-prepping-xmas-dinner song ๐
I can remember having to sing Hark the Herald Angel Sings in the school choir, I much preferred to sing Once In Royal Saint David’s City or O’ Little Town of Bethlehem
Great choices, thanks for sharing! I love Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Christmas music is so evocative and brings back so many memories.
Aw how lovely! We are not at home this Christmas, and whilst I know we will have a lovely time with just our tiny family, I wish I was at home with my big family too… Have a great time! ๐ x
We love music at Christmas – my two have been humming away all day today and it’s so sweet x x
