Mascara is an absolute beauty must-have for me. If I had just 3 minutes to get ready before I leave the house, I would make sure to put on mascara before any foundation, concealer or blush. Mascara is a product that makes me feel more awake and confident as I like to think that my eyes are the first thing about me that people notice, I do want them to look nice. I don’t know about you, but I am always on the hunt for the best mascara out there – a mascara that’s long-lasting, adding length and volume, but at the same time doesn’t smudge or make my lashes stick together.
Over the last couple of years, I have tried dozens of different mascaras and I have settled for about half a dozen that I will use over and over again.
So here they are, the 5 best mascaras in my make-up bag
Thick & Fast Mascara by Soap & Glory – around £10
I’ve been using this mascara for a couple of weeks now and I already know that I will definitely be repurchasing it. It gives you the thick lashes that it promises and the brush is absolutely brilliant. It distributes the mascara evenly and you’re good to go after just one application. Your lashes stay put all day and you won’t have to worry about your mascara smudging or moving about despite Thick & Fast not having a waterproof formula.
Big & Beautiful Boom by Astor – £9
This is a mascara that I have picked up in Germany last winter. I had a coupon for 50% off and as my other mascara was on its way out, I thought I’d try this one. I think it was the golden packaging that sucked me in. The brush of Astor’s Big & Beautiful Boom is massive, but it really separates your lashes and gives you a natural look after just one application. It does more in terms of length than it does for volume, but it is easily buildable, if you want a more dramatic eye and it is really light on your lashes.
Super Shock by Avon – £8.50
I love love love Avon’s Super Shock mascara. Once again, quite a big brush, but I seem to be getting on well with them and this mascara does an amazing job at absolutely everything. With one application, you get thick and long lashes and there’s absolutely no need for a second or third application. The brush grips the bottom of your lashes beautifully, almost making it look like you are wearing a black eye-liner, and gives your lashes a nice curl.
Boomtastic by GOSH – £6.49
I know, there seems to be a theme going on here, but this is another favourite of mine which comes with a big brush. In fact, the brush of GOSH’s Boomtastic mascara is huge compared to other mascaras that I have used before. Other than most of my other mascaras, it has plastic bristles, which is something that took some getting used to, but I really like this mascara and at only £6.49 it is a real bargain. It doesn’t clump your lashes together and gives you extreme length and volume, so much so that my lashes touch my eye brows, if I use more than one application. Thumbs up from me!
False Lash Effect Mascara from MaxFactor – £10.99
Surprise, surprise – another big brush, but I think big is what you need, if you are promising the effect of false lashes. I wouldn’t say that’s the effect that I get when using this mascara, but I am really happy with the length and volume that it gives me. It doesn’t flake or smudge and is the perfect choice, if you are out all day and want something that stays put. Definitely one of the best mascaras in my make-up bag right now.
I’m always on the hunt for new great mascaras. Which is the best mascara that you own?
