Mugs are one of the best parts of any kitchen, and let’s face it, of our daily routines. If you couldn’t cope without your daily dose of caffeine like us, you’ll appreciate just how important a good mug is.
If your mug collection is looking slightly more boring than boosted, investing in a new set, or just one or two new special ones, is a sure fire way to brighten up your coffee and your kitchen.
We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite ideas and designs that are all over the internet at the moment to get you inspired, and basically just because we wanted an extra excuse to talk about coffee, tea and mugs.
If you like letting your creative side run wild on occasion, a sharpie mug project is a great thing to try. Purchase a plain white mug, a host of sharpies and choose a design that you like…and get scribbling! There’s a useful tutorial here for helping to ensure your design never disappears, even in the dishwasher.
Photos instantly brighten up anyone’s day, so why not combine your favourite cuppa with your favourite snaps? There are loads of sites and stores that allow you to upload your photos and create your own personalised cup and you could even go for different effects like mosaic pictures and photo editing options.
Another one that is taking the crafting blog world by storm is the project of making your own chalkboard mug. If you don’t fancy DIY-ing one, you can pick chalkboard mugs up at most places now. They make lovely gifts too, as you can write your recipient a message on that they can change. They’re also the perfect way to remind your other half how you like your tea, as you can write your requirements on it!
Heat changing mugs
These cups are really unusual as they change design as they get hot when you pour your drink into it. We love this geeky Tetris one which changes to different stages of the game as you pour your hot water into it, then goes back to the beginning as it cools down.
If you just fancy updating your current mug slightly, or want something different altogether, mug cosies are an adorable choice. You can get personalised mug cosies, or if you want it to be even more personal, why not give knitting a go and make your own! This is another great idea for a homemade gift for someone special.
Name or letter mugs
The perfect choice, if you want a mug for the office – or shared house – places where possessions have a tendency to get ‘misplaced’. Eliminate the confusion by getting a mug with your name on, or if that’s a bit much, get one with just your initial on. These letter mugs are really cute and have a slight vintage look about them which we love.
How many mugs do you have and how many do you really use? Admit it, are you a mug addict like me?
