The lovely Kate from Kate Takes 5 is reviving her famous Listography and is this week looking at all the simple things in life that bring you pleasure. I thought this was a lovely topic for the weekend and instantly started writing. Here are my 5 picks, my 5 simple pleasures:
This will sound really bad, but I love the peace and quiet once Amy is in bed. I enjoy our days together, crafts, reading books, cooking or baking, but she is a little whirlwind and on the go from the minute she wakes up. Being able to sit down, put my legs up and do things that I want to do is pure bliss – even, if it just lasts for a couple of hours.
Recently, well for the last year really, I have been loving watching YouTube videos in the evening. They are so entertaining, really relaxing and highly addictive. My favourite channel is Essie Button – check it out! It takes me two minutes to get sucked in and I end up clicking from video to video until my eyes start burning and it’s 1 in the morning, which is when I go to bed and continue watching on my phone – oops.
3. The beach
We don’t go to the beach anywhere near enough, but, having grown up by the seaside, there is nothing more relaxing for me than a walk along the beach. Spending time on the beach always makes me happy and to me it really doesn’t matter what the weather is like – in fact I love it when it’s really cold and windy, because it really makes you feel the power of nature.
4. A long bath
I think we all agree that a long bath is the best thing since sliced bread. If you ask me, it’s even better than that – especially when it’s not interrupted by big and little people who need a poo, can’t find the remote control or don’t know where the tin opener is.
I’ve always loved swimming – probably because a) it’s in water and I like that or b) because you can exercise without visibly getting a sweat on – nothing less unattractive than that. I find it incredibly relaxing to swim my lanes and think of nothing but the next one. It’s the exercise and empty head that really help me switch off and the mix of it makes me really happy for some reason. I can jump into the pool absolutely furious and come out smiling – I guess that’s what simple pleasures are all about.
This is all for today. I hope you enjoyed this little post on a Saturday and if you fancy sharing your own simple pleasures pop them in the comment box below or, even better, get involved with Kate’s Listography. It’s great fun!
Have a fab weekend x
