Dressing for Ladies Day at the Races

dressing for ladies day at the racesWith the horse racing season well and truly upon us it’s time to book those tickets to Ladies Day and decide what you’ll be wearing. With more than 60 racecourses in the UK, many of which are following in Ascot and Cheltenham’s footsteps and featuring a Ladies Day this year, there are plenty of excuses to dress up and have a great day out with friends.

With competitions for best dressed, the best hat and more, it’s the place to see and be seen these days, especially if you’re interested in fashion and celebrity spotting. You’ll have seen them in the papers and celebrity style magazines, dressed up to the nines and wearing ever more unusual hats. So why not join them and see how you do in the style stakes?

It’s a great day out, especially for a group of friends. You’ll love dressing up (to avoid breaking the bank why not consider a George dress from their great value range of gorgeous dresses?), having your hair and makeup done and maybe even buying a hat. It is the races after all! Treat yourself to a glass of champagne, enjoy some great food and a very different day out to the norm.

With Cheltenham’s Ladies Day having already taken place in March, the trend was for bright and daring dresses and sun kissed skin, playing homage to the recent good weather no doubt. Fake fur trimmings on coats and feathered hats and accessories also seemed to be the order of the day, as did a more relaxed country set look, with some even sporting wellies with their skirts and jackets.

Make sure you get in on the Ladies Day action and visit a race course for yourself this year. Some excellent ones to visit are:

Royal Ascot

The ultimate in pageantry and fashion, Royal Ascot is one of the best known Ladies Days in the UK. With a Royal procession taking place at 2pm just before the first race starts and some of the most amazing fashion and millinery on display all day, it’s an amazing sight to behold. If you aren’t lucky enough to be a member of the Royal Enclosure, the Grandstand Admission is the ticket that you want if you would like to have a great view and access to both the parade ring and the pre parade ring. You’ll also find some great dining experiences here by well known chefs Tom Kerridge and Atul Kochar. For a more relaxed atmosphere and a more purse friendly ticket, the Silver Ring Admission is the one for you.

Another memorable day out, right in the heart of the British summer, Glorious Goodwood is a wonderfully English event. Celebrating the very best of English food and culture, Goodwood is where you’ll sip on champagne while enjoying some delicious fresh strawberries and admiring the form of the beautiful and powerful horses. The fashion here is just as adventurous and stunning as at any of the other races being held this season and you’ll adore the beautiful country setting of this amazing race course.

You’ll find plenty of other Ladies Days throughout the country this race season, so why not visit one near you. It’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a gorgeous new dress after all.
