Only around 8% of people actually stick to their New Year’s resolutions. We get all excited about the New Year and think of ways to improve ourselves, but for most, the resolutions get thrown out the door a few months or even days into the new year.
This year, make it one of your resolutions to stick to your new year’s resolutions! Make the effort to change and you will be successful throughout the year. Here are a few tips for helping you achieve your goals:
Make realistic resolutions
When making your new year’s resolutions, make sure that they are realistic and that you can achieve them. It doesn’t have to be something big, it just has to be something that you can do. Choose an area in your life that needs improvement and work on that. Don’t wish for radical changes to happen in your life if you are not willing to work for them. The key is being realistic!
Create a vision board
Seeing what you need to do will greatly help you achieve your goals this new year. Create a vision board where you can visually see the changes that you want to happen in your life. You can cut out an image of the theory test examination when learning to drive, an expensive pair of shoes you want to buy, or a no smoking sign. Post it on your bedroom wall or create a digital version of a vision board that you can keep on your phone, so that you can be encouraged to work on your resolutions and to stick with them.
Share resolutions with your friends and family
It might help you to stick to your resolutions if you share it with your friends and family. By doing this, everyone will know about your goals and they may even help you achieve it. You might even find other people who have the same resolutions as yourself and you can push each other to achieve the things that you want to change in your life.
For some, quitting is the answer when faced with failure. If you break your resolution, it doesn’t mean that you have to stop trying. It is a process that doesn’t happen overnight. If you really want to see the changes happen in your life, you have to be positive and stick to what you want to happen. Do all that it takes so that you can stick to your resolutions.
Keep track of your progress
Another tip is to keep track of your progress. Make a daily, weekly, or monthly check on the progress you are making towards your goals. I always sit down with my planner in the evening and tick off everything that I have achieved during the day. You can use a calendar, smartphone or whatever works for you to track your progress. According to a study, people are most likely to stick to their goals, if they see them written down or if they keep track of their progress. There are even apps that you can use to help you do this.
These are some of my very best tips to help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions this 2015, but I’d love to hear what you do to keep on track. Let me know in the comments below…
