When we first moved into our new apartment, (I’ll get around to doing an apartment tour at one point, here’s the living room tour for starters) the bathroom was the biggest issue for me. Don’t get me wrong, I liked that it was spacious with a bath tub and separate shower as well as plenty of space to put a washing machine and tumble dryer, but it really wasn’t my style. It was really dated, the only window was really small and therefore the room was generally pretty dark. The fact that every single tile and the entire bathroom suite are beige/brown didn’t help, so I had to get a little creative to get some light into the room.
As it’s a rental property, there was no way, we could build in a bigger window or change out the tiles, so I thought long and hard (this might be a slight exaggeration) and came up with the idea of using a bathroom cabinet to a) create extra storage above the sink, b) make the room a little brighter and c) include a mirror for all the usual hair and make-up business that we do each day.
It wasn’t that easy to find the perfect bathroom cabinet for me as the space over my sink was limited by two light fittings on the wall, but some internet researched definitely helped me decide what to go for. Visit Bella Bathrooms or Pinterest for inspiration and definitely ask yourself what you want your bathroom cabinet to do for you. Reflecting light and making my room appear bigger and brighter was more important to me than the extra storage, as I already have a cupboard under the sink as well as a shelf for towels and flannels, so getting an illuminated bathroom cabinet was the right decision for me.
Are you using bathroom cabinets or do you have different storage and lighting solutions in your bathroom?
