Little girls love to play dress-up, so it’s no wonder that many of their parties have some sort of a fancy dress theme! If your daughter’s been invited to a birthday, garden, or tea party, never fear. Here are a few outfit ideas to help her look fun and festive.
Alice in Wonderland
A perennially popular party outfit for little girls is Alice in Wonderland. With red and white striped tights, a blue dress or pinafore, and a bow in her hair, she’ll be cute as a button and ready to attend any costume or themed party she’s invited to during the summer in particular. But don’t neglect the other characters in this book, who can also be great costume fodder, such as the Queen of Hearts or even Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
Tea Party Dresses
Tea parties are another popular theme for little girls. You don’t necessarily need to go all-out with a costume of any kind for this theme, but Alice in Wonderland works again in this instance. For something less frilly, you could also dress her up as the Mad Hatter. However, it’s also perfectly acceptable to wear a basic tea dress, whether it’s adorned with flowers, butterflies or lace. Accessorise with dainty gloves and a girly hat and she’ll be ready to practice putting her pinky in the air with the best of them!
Are you looking for cute or funny costumes that are ideal for babies and toddlers? Animal costumes always fit the bill. These also work with themes like garden or forest parties, and can be a great addition to the regular dress-up box in between parties and Halloween. It’s also easy to fashion an animal costume using monochrome clothing and creative makeup. If you want to find an animal costume that can be reused in daily life, look for the designs that double as pyjamas or onesies.
Comic book superheroes are just as popular with little girls as they are with little boys, and this is a very common theme for parties. Whether she’s attending a general costume party or one that’s specifically superhero themed, creating a superhero costume is reasonably easy. A coloured leotard, cape, and boots does the trick or you can always look for branded costumes like Spiderman dress up at Funidelia. There are a number of female superheroes, including Batgirl and Supergirl, but the beauty of superheroes is that the costumes can be adapted to either gender.
Fairies and Princesses
Of course, fairies, princesses, and some combination of the two is always a popular theme for little girls, particularly those around preschool age. Many party dresses for little girls can always do double duty as fancy dress for Halloween, given some extra accessories like fairy wings, tiaras, or magic wands. If your daughter is of the age where she’s attending a different classmate’s birthday party every weekend, it may be worth stocking up on a few of these basic princess-y dresses to always have a spare on hand!
