Can you believe that it’s just two weeks until Christmas? I’m so excited! Up until last weekend, I wasn’t really feeling christmassy at all (christmassy is a real word, right?), but then my friend Andrea popped over for a weekend full of Christmas fun and now I can’t wait for the big day. We spent the entire Saturday munching and drinking our way through Rostock Christmas market – hot Caipirinha is the gift of God, let me tell you – and when we were stuffed, we started our picked up lots of little bits and pieces. There’s still lots that I have to get for friends and family, but Amy and I have decided that we’ll get our creative hats on and make some presents ourselves.
Amy loves anything from baking and drawing to crafting, so it will be great fun for us to make something she can give to her grandparents, great-grandparents or my sister and her boyfriend. I’ve pinned a couple of lovely ideas over the last couple of days and we’ll definitely be making some chocolate truffles, which I know will be an absolute winner with everyone. My sister and I used to make them for our family when we were younger and I can’t wait to give them a try with Amy. They’re super yummy and we’ll probably eat more than we’ll actually package up for everyone, but for one it’s a lovely activity for Amy and secondly, I love the idea of carrying a little family tradition forward.
While it’s not about big presents or grand gestures for us at Christmas, but more about spending time together as a family, I do love this video from Christmas24. It really spreads the Christmas spirit, don’t you think?
We always go to church on Christmas Eve (more for the singing rather than religious reasons) and then we have dinner together and open our presents. The rest of the evening is all about games, laughter and drinks before we hit the bed ready for a day of food and family fun at my Nan’s. It’s the same every year, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Do you have family traditions for Christmas? Have you bought all your Christmas presents yet or will you even be making some yourself?
