I don’t know about you, but Amy and I are absolutely obsessed with cats. We’ve not quite reached Crazy Cat Lady status, but having both grown up with cats around us, we were really missing having a fur baby at home. Having to leave our cats Betty and Honey behind in the UK when we moved was utterly heartbreaking, so I promised myself that once we were completely settled here in Germany, we would add a third member to our little family.
Yesterday, it was finally time to welcome the new addition to our mother-daughter household – a beautiful grey kitten called Harry. You might be surprised about the rather unusual cat name, but Amy is a die-hard One Direction fan and a little obsessed with Harry Styles, so when she found out that our new family member was male, there was only one choice of name for her.
Harry is eight weeks old now and we picked him up yesterday with Amy having absolutely no clue where we were going. I told her a couple of weeks ago that she’d be getting a huge surprise very soon, but she had no idea what it would be, so you can imagine her face when she saw that we were bringing home a new kitten. She was completely overwhelmed and speechless and for a moment, my mum and I thought she was going to burst out in tears and cry, but then the excitement took over and she kept thanking me over and over again because she was so incredibly happy.
Today, is our first day with Harry and I have to say, I completely forgot just how much fun it is to have a kitten in the house. While still being a little shy and getting used to us, Harry is turning out to be quite the little adventurer. He loves exploring every nook and cranny of our living room, including the bookshelf, which I had to pull him out of three times alone this morning. The cutest thing is to see how much he seems to like Amy. She’s quite the whirlwind, but she’s as good as gold with him and he keeps following her around our flat and meowing at her. I know they’ll be the best of friends in no time.
How do you like Amy’s choice of name? I think it’s super cute!
