I’m a notorious night owl and I’d always rather potter around until the middle of the night than get up early. To make sure that I can sleep a little longer and have a stress-free morning, I have a little pre-bedtime routine going. As mums are always in need of some extra sleep, I thought I’d share my top 5 things to do before bedtime so that you too can have a stress-free morning.
5 things to do before bedtime that will let you have a stress-free morning
Write a to-do-list for the next day
That way you know exactly what’s happening and you can plan out your schedule. What are the things that have to be done and what can wait until the day after? Write it all down and you don’t have to waste time on figuring out what’s happening in the morning or forgetting important dates or deadlines. If you’re a mum, double-check your kids’ bags to see if anything needs to be signed or brought in the next day.
Lay out your clothes for the next day
This might sound super silly but how often have you stood in front of your wardrobe in the morning and wasted valuable time trying to figure out what to wear? Do it in the evening and you will be fully dressed in 2 minutes maximum. The same goes for your kids. Put out their clothes in the evening and you’ll all have a stress-free morning.
Pick up any clutter around the house and do the washing up
I don’t know about you but for me, there’s nothing worse than being greeted by all the things that could have been tidied up before bedtime but were left until the morning. It means that you have to start your morning tidying and let’s be honest, that’s not a fun way to kick start the day. The same goes for the kitchen. Do the washing up, empty the dishwasher and clear the sides. I promise you, breakfast time will run smoother and you’ll have a more relaxed start to the day.
Prepare a load of washing
Sort your laundry and prepare a load of washing reading to go first thing in the morning. That way you only have to switch on your washing machine when you get up and save yourself another boring chore that might just get pushed further and further away throughout the day. Let’s face it, no one enjoys sorting the laundry, right?
Have a drink of water
I mean, don’t go crazy and drink a 2l bottle of water before bedtime unless you’ve got a super stretchy bladder, but make sure to drink a decent about of water before bedtime. That way you’ll stay hydrated throughout the night and the early hours of the morning and wake up feeling refreshed and energised. Sounds crazy, but it really works for me. Wanna push it even further? Have a glass of water on your bedside table ready for the morning.
Fantastic read! I’ve only started becoming more of a morning person this year, but I find to-do lists are an absolute must. I love being able to set out my things the night before, to ensure I know what I need to do the next day, no more stressful mornings for me x

Great ideas, I’ve started to make the children’s lunch boxes the night before too and popping them in the fridge.
I really need to start doing this with my clothes – I’m awful for gazing at the wardrobe first thing!
Does having a huge pile of clothes on the floor that aren’t clean, but not dirty enough to wash count as laying your clothes out ready for the morning???
Haha, if you know what you want to wear out of that huge pile, I guess could count it ๐ x
I do the same. Decide next day clothes for kids and myself at night but i think i also need to get in habit of drinking lots of water. http://www.mommystimeline.com
Staying hydrated makes such a difference to me. It really helps x
This is so helpful. I’m useless in the morning and need every little help I can get. I’ll definitely try some of these tips x
Mornings are always chaotic for me so I might try out some of these tips! Great post ๐
Great list. Also practising good sleep hygiened like in your other post so you get the best nights sleep possible!
I Like your post. very nice
This is awesome!! The morning’s can be so stressful when you have a million things to do – and minimizing just a few of the big ones really helps things go so much more smoothly. I literally cannot tell you how many days started out TERRIBLY because I was deciding on what to wear….
I also like to set my coffee to automatically start brewing in the morning, because it’s the little things too. Thanks for sharing <3
I love this!!! Definitely using these for the next school year. Also I use lists all the time!! Xx
