Although I’m not much of a fashionista, I’ve written a couple of blog post about fashion topics in the past. They were mainly ideas for school run outfits or posts my mum uniform, e.g. my wardrobe staples. Admittedly, my style hasn’t changed that much since I’ve become a mum. I’ve always lived in jeans and ankle boots and a comfy shirt but let’s face it, as mum’s, we’ve got to be prepared for every occasion.
No matter if school run, a rare night out with friends or a business meeting, with these wardrobe staples for busy mums, you’re always looking put together:
A good pair of jeans
I don’t know about you but I couldn’t live without jeans. I pretty much wear them every single day and to me they’re the most comfortable piece of clothing right after sweat pants, which I’d obviously never wear outside the house. Jeans, however, can be worn with absolutely everything and can be incredibly versatile. You can dress them up with some heels, a nice top and a blazer or wear them a chunky cardigan or jumper for a cosy feel. The most important thing is that you invest some time into finding the perfect pair of jeans for your body type as the right fit makes all the difference.
Blazer
A structured or tailored blazer looks good on every body type as look as you make sure that it’s got a good fit and accentuates your waist. Pair it with a white T, flats and your favourite pair of jeans for a coffee date with your besties or rock your next business meeting wearing it with a great pencil skirt or shift dress. Depending on your personal style, go for whatever colour you like. Personally, I’m a big fan of black and neutral shades like grey or navy.
Cardigan
Cardigans are not only one of my favourite great wardrobe staples but also incredibly versatile. Go for an oversized cardi or a chunky knit for a more casual look or choose a more tailored style, if you’re wearing a more classic/elegant outfit. No matter which style you prefer, cardigans are brilliant for layering and changing up your look and, of course, keeping you warm.
Tank tops and T-shirts
I own a ton of T-shirts and tank tops in lots of different styles and colours and they also come in super handy – I mean kids always have grubby hands, right? I love pairing my tanks and T’s with cardigans, wear them under jumpers if they’re a little on the short side and or with blazers to give my look a more casual feel.
Feel-good dress
Every woman should own a feel-good dress, something that they can just slip on and feel beautiful in. I love knee-length jersey dresses because they’re super flattering and comfortable and you look good in them no matter, if you’re chasing after your toddler in the playground or you’re meeting the school mum’s for a couple of drinks on a night out. Just wear a cute pair of ankle boots or flats with them during the day and pair them with a pair of heels in the evening. It’s also a great idea to own a classic LBD (little black dress) for date nights, funerals or business events.
Pencil skirt
Ever since I’ve seen my sister-in-law rock a pencil skirt with sneakers, I’m a massive fan of them. I love them as a wardrobe staple for those who work in a business environment, but they can also look super cool with a basic T and sneakers or ankle boots and an oversized sweater. There are tonnes of cool outfit ideas on Pinterest, so check that out if you’re ever stuck on how to style certain items.
