1. Can you quickly introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Sarah, I’m 36 and mum to 2 boys Jack (2 1/2 and Noah 8 months) I live in Herefordshire with my fiance Mike. Until recently I’ve worked in sales and studied physcotherapy in my free time!!
2. When and why did you decide you decide to become your own boss?
Well, after having Noah I did my sums and realised it wouldn’t be cost effective to return to my sales job, that and the fact it took me away from my boys for far too long during the week and impacted our weekends as a family too. I’ve always loved sewing and crafting so turned a hobby into something I could make for others. I made a keepsake blanket from the boys sleepsuits and was soon asked to make them for some other mummy friends and it grew from there. I can now work around the family and get the best of both worlds doing something I love.
3. What sort of products to you produce and sell? And which one is your absolute favourite?
Memory blankets, comforters, bunting and other baby items. I’m thinking up new ideas all the time and this year I will be adding clothing and playmats to my range. The keepsake items are my favourite as they are such a lovely thing to keep and pass down, so full of memories, babies grow up so fast it’s wonderful to have something to look back on.
4. How do you juggle being a successful business woman, mum and wife?
It’s hard work and often tiring especially, if I have deadlines to meet but each time I get positive feedback it makes it all worth while. I try and prepare my fabrics and materials one day and then I can have a full day sewing and use my evenings too once the boys are asleep. Weekends are family time as that’s when we can the four of us can have quality time together. Working from home means I can spend so much more time with the boys than if I was dashing off to work at 5am or working on a presentation til the early hours, I’m less stressed too which makes me less grumpy!
5. Is there anything you wish you’d known before becoming a mumpreneur or wish you’d done differently?
I wish I’d spent a little bit more on getting my packaging and website set up first then materials but I’ve got all that sorted now and can indulge my fabric obsession freely!
6. What do you love most about your job and what are your plans for the future?
I love that I can spend more time with my family and can have that flexibilty that my full time job didn’t offer, I’m now making beautiful, one of a kind items that will be loved and appreciated. I am really going for it this year, lots of ideas for products like dresses, summer hats, keepsake cushions and patchwork playmats to name a few. I have also invested in some embroidery equipment that will make personalising things like stockings much easier although I do love the applique too. I plan to attend some local craft fairs and build up my website, Facebook and Twitter following.

I recently sorted out the clothes I had stored in the loft from my 3 children, after deciding we will not be having any more. I have kept back a bag of clothes for all of them, of my fav items or those which have memories for me with the intention that one day I would either pay someone / try myself to do a blanket using all the bits (patchwork style). So to come across this post the same month vould be fate!
