I’ve failed with writing my post last week and I’m feeling a little down about it. I had all my bullet points ready but life got in the way and for some reason, I never got around to writing it.
Amy is off sick again – once again it’s her tonsils and sinuses playing up and I’m so fed up with it all. Surgery can’t come quick enough! Obviously, no mother wants to see her child go under the knife but I just want Amy to have a decent quality of life again. Sure, there are more serious things out there than repeated tonsillitis and ear infections but it’s really affecting Amy’s interactions with other people and it’s getting really frustrating for her – and for me. Surgery is scheduled for 3 May, so it’s another 2 months of sleepless nights and breathing struggles, but hey, at least spring seems to be around the corner. I’ve seen the first snowdrops this week and I can’t wait for warmer temperatures and outdoor fun.
Now, let’s have a chat about the last week, though…
I’ve read two free box sets that came with a book I downloaded onto my Kindle ages ago. One was called ‘Slammed’ – hold your horses, it was about a quarterback – okay, and his on and off girlfriend and urgh, she was just utterly annoying. It was a kind of coming of age story, so you would expect the protagonists to make some questionable choices and not be strong and self-assured characters yet, but the female lead was so frustrating that I was tempted to put the book aside on more than one occasion.
The second series was called ‘Protector’ and was about a former Navy Seal who had been hired to protect a wealthy daughter whose sociopathic ex-boyfriend was stalking and threatening her. Personally, I found the story much more intriguing because of the psychological issues that both protagonists were struggling with. The female came to terms with life after a physical and emotionally abusive relationship and the male lead tried to deal with PTSD in his life after the Navy.
It’s been all about Ewige Helden and The Bachelor again for me this week. I’ve also been to the cinema twice. On Tuesday, Amy and I watched Bibi und Tina, a German kids film all about horses, friendship and girl power with a bit of music thrown in for good measure.
On Saturday, I went to the cinema with my sister and her boyfriend and we watched Fifty Shades Darker which was a very restricted version of the book (obviously) but still really good. I know this might sound a bit odd, but I loved the humour in it. I think the emotional side of the story came a bit short, though, but I guess that’s always a problem when you have to compress an entire book into 90 minutes. Jamie Dornan totally made up for it, I won’t try and tell you he didn’t! Have you watched Fifty Shades Darker yet? What did you think of it?
Inspired by the 50 Shades Darker soundtrack, I listened to a lot of Sia this week. I just love her voice and I really hope she’ll go on tour in Germany soon, so I can see her live. I bet she’s amazing. For some reason, I’ve also been big on Mr. Big (haha, see what I did there?) this week. I don’t know what it is but I’m obsessed with 90s music. I think I’ll prefer it to current hits in 95% of the cases if I had to choose.
I’ve helped out at kindergarten this week and prepared a three-course meal with 32 kids between 5 and 6 years. A chef came in to talk about healthy eating, nutrition, food preparation and we created three different dishes.
As a starter, we had a mixed salad with a lemon and yoghurt dressing. The main was homemade pasta with a tomato and turkey sauce and as a dessert, we made pancakes with apple compote and a quark dip. The kids loved every second of it, but I think every adult involved needed a stiff drink in the evening. Juggling 32 excited kids in a kitchen is bloody hard work!
Nothing special really. I very much live in ankle boots, jeans and some sort of top but I’m currently on the hunt for a lightweight rain jacket for my trip to Iceland. Finding something that’s good quality, fashionable and plus size is quite the challenge but I still have 3 weeks, so I’m hopeful I’ll find something that does the job and doesn’t break the bank. If you have any suggestions, let me know!
Did you celebrate International Women’s Day this week? I surprised my mum with some flowers because she’s the most important woman in my life. Who is yours?
Oh poor Amy, it’s so awful that she’s poorly again. I feel so helpless when my girls are ill, you just want to take it all away from them don’t you. May can’t come quick enough, I bet.
Wow, the kindergarten meal sounds like quite a feat, but a very yummy and healthy one! I’m not surprised all the adults needed a stiff drink at the end, I’d have been the same! haha
Have a lovely weekend xx
I studied to be a teacher, so I know how hard working in a classroom can be but 32 excited 6-year-olds with knives in a kitchen is a whole different level of stressful. I can’t even say how much respect I have for kindergarten and early years teachers. They must have super powers to survive that on an everyday basis… x
Kindergarten looks like lots of fun but I don’t envy you cooking for that many children ! How lovely that you bought flowers for your mum to celebrate International Women’s Day. Have a lovely weekend. #LittleLoves
I love Amy’s kindergarten. They do so many great activities outside the curriculum, it’s amazing. They always have people coming in talking about their jobs and teaching them life skills like emergency calls, safety rules for fires or beach scenarios and they work closely with the assisted living centres around here. They’re fab! x
I don’t envy cooking with a class of children but it sounds like they had a great time – the menu sounds delicious! I pretty much live in jeans and boots too, staple uniform! x
I love Sia, she is so talented and her voice is amazing! Poor Amy, hope she perks up soon! Not nice! Have a wonderful weekend, popping over from #littleloves
So sorry to hear that Amy is poorly again, I feel her pain I didn’t get my tonsils our until I was 18.
Poor Amy being ill again, she’s really going through it poor little thing. 32 kids in a kitchen – you are one brave woman! Those flowers are beautiful. Have a great week!
Oh, sorry to hear that your little one is feeling poorly again. It must be so hard for you both. Wow, great job with the kindergarten meal – that sounds like it was quite challenging, but rewarding I bet. Enjoy your week xx
Those flowers are absolutely beautiful – what a lovely surprise for your mum.
Oh no sorry to hear she is unwell not fair. I haven’t seen Fifty shades darker I need to. Read all the books. Wow that Kindergarden cooking looks fab!!! Hope you had a great weekend #littleloves
I really really liked the books. I didn’t want to read them at all initially because I thought they wouldn’t be my cup of tea at all, but my sister made me watch the first movie and after it I was so intrigued by Christian’s story that I got them all the next day. So good x
I like the soundtrack of the movie. Had to watch it with a friend. She is crazy for Grey.
I can totally see why 😉 He’s very nice to look at… x
