Jeans are an absolute staple in my mum wardrobe. I wear them literally every single day, so finding the perfect pair of jeans is something that has resembled the quest for the holy grail for me in past years. I’ve got good news, though. I think I’ve found it: the perfect pair of jeans. In fact, it’s pretty easy if you follow a couple of tips. So I thought I’d share them with you:
Finding the perfect pair of jeans
Material
When you’re looking for your perfect pair of jeans, it’s important to think about all the things you want your jeans to do for you – well, or the things you don’t want them to do. The choice is yours! Do you want them to hug your curves and accentuate your body shape? Then a more stretchy material would be perfect for you. Looking for something that is a little more authentic and reminds of the original style? Go for Raw Denim. It’s thicker and heavier and makes the jeans more durable.
Colour
The colour of your jeans can make a real difference to your appearance. Light colours can add a couple of pounds and emphasise your curves while dark tones are great if you want to hide the odd lump and bump. The same goes for the different washes: vertical washes that sit on top of your legs help to make them appear slimmer and longer while horizontal wash effects are a fantastic choice for petite women who’d like to look a little curvier.
Cut
I’m not telling you something new when I say that not every jeans cut suits every body shape, but if you want to find the most flattering jeans for your figure, here’s a quick run-down of the most popular cuts:
- Boot Cut: slightly flared legs to go over boots
- Skinny: tight fit at seat, thigh and leg
- Flare: fitted thigh, widen dramatically at the knee to become very wide at the ankle
- Bell Bottom: flare from the knees downward, forming a bell-like shape of the trouser leg
- Straight: same width from thigh to ankle
- Boyfriend: relaxed and oversized fit with straight legs, sometimes cuffed at the bottom
- Marlene: wide from hip to hem
- Capri: cropped to go just past the knee or to the calf
Pockets
Want to show your bum from its best side? Consider the size and position of your back pockets when looking for your perfect pair of jeans. Depending on where they’re positioned, they might make your bum appear smaller or bigger. For a smaller bum, choose a pair with small pockets that sit high up. Lower and bigger pockets will make your bum look more curvaceous. Pockets in a different material or colour have the same effect.

this is such a great read Carolin. I never knew about the pocket bit – I have to say it is something I have never considered when buying jeans. x
It totally makes sense when you think about it, though, don’t you think? x
