Ever since becoming a parent, safety is something that I am incredibly passionate about. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wrap Amy in cotton wool, far from it, but I think it’s really important to have basic safety measures in place when it comes to your children and family. To raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide, a hidden gas that might be lurking in your home, I have teamed up with npower to bring you some facts and figures about the risks of carbon monoxide as well as a competition to win a Nest Protect smart smoke and carbon monoxide detector worth £109 – because chances are that you’re 1 in 3 people in the UK who don’t already have a carbon monoxide alarm at home.
npower have recently conducted research among the people of the UK and here are some of their findings compiled in a slideshow:
Did you find yourself in any of the answers? I know that I did. I mean, of course, I was aware that you can die from carbon monoxide poisoning, just like 95% of the UK. I also knew some of the symptoms you show when you’re suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, namely dizzyness, nausea, tiredness, headaches and breathing problems, but just like 25% of the UK’s population, I assumed that carbon monoxide had a smell that made it easy to identify in case of a leak – a lack of knowledge that could have cost me and many others their lives.
A look at the research presented in the infographic below shows just how incredibly unknowledgeable most of us are when it comes to the dangers of CO and how important it is to raise awareness until every house in the UK is equipped with a carbon monoxide monitor. If you want to win the device that could protect your family’s lives, scroll down to find out how you can enter:
We think that carbon monoxide poisoning is something that all the family should know about, which is why we want to encourage you to talk to even the littlest members of your family and teach them how to spot the signs of a potential leak, symptoms of CO poisoning and the steps you should take to make sure you’re all save.
Getting creative together is a great way to talk about the issue without scaring your kids, so sit down with your little ones and draw a carbon monoxide monster – one lucky winner will not only win a Nest Protect smart smoke and carbon monoxide detector worth £109 but also a professional print of their child’s monster. Good luck, I can’t wait to see your CO monsters!
