With the weather warming up a little my thoughts are turning to my holidays. Like most of you, I can´t wait to get away and enjoy some sunshine and spending time on the beach. So, I thought I would take the opportunity to write about shopping for plus-size swimwear. Most retailers are starting to stock a good range again – like these here – so now is the perfect time to take a look at the styles of swimwear you can buy in 2018.
One-pieces are back in vogue
For quite a few years the bikini has dominated. Pretty much wherever you shopped this fun swimwear made up a significant percentage of the range.
In 2018, that has changed. Now you are going to see far more one-piece costumes available in the shops than bikinis.
The new style tankinis have proved so popular over the past couple of years. So, finally, swimwear designers have understood that not every woman feels confident enough to wear a bikini. As a result, there are lots and lots of one-piece swimsuits out there, and they come in a wide variety of cuts. This is great news for women with a curvy figure. The right one-piece offers a good level of support, which makes it much easier for you to swim, surf, water-ski and enjoy other water sports.
Crochet bikinis
Now, I know I said the bikini appears to have had its day, but there is one style that does appear to be back in vogue. Something we have not seen since the 60s. Quite a few retailers are stocking crochet Bandeau bikini tops paired with crochet tie bikini briefs. Both cuts are ideal for plus sized women and the crochet detailing is very feminine and because it is textured this style of swimwear distracts the eye, so it is very flattering.
An elegantly sculpted one-piece
If you are looking for a one-piece swimsuit that is cut to support and flatter, you really cannot go wrong with a Magisculpt costume. It can be worn in six different ways, which means there is a configuration that is ideal for you. The Grecian styling is very elegant and sophisticated.
Convertible swim dresses
There are also some lovely convertible swimsuits available. They are cut like a short dress, but when you tie the sides up you have a nice looking swimming costume. Try to buy one that is slightly ruched around the waist and hip areas. These are far more flattering than the kind that has a smooth panel of material in this area.
Sports Swimwear
For the more active amongst you, sports swimwear is a perfect choice. These garments are usually made using good quality elasticated materials, which offers plenty of support and smoothes things out nicely. Legsuits are probably the best option.
Playsuits
If you do not think you are going to go in the water, a playsuit can be a great option for the beach. They are especially good for sunbathing or for wearing when you take a stroll along the water´s edge. Those that feature Bardot frills are really flattering, so be sure to try one on the next time you go shopping.
Don´t forget to measure yourself
OK, so now you know more about the styles of swimwear you can expect to find when you go shopping all you need to do is to measure yourself. This short video shows you exactly how to do it.
If you are a curvier woman, too, what are your favourite places to buy plus-size swimwear? Have you picked up anything new for 2018, yet?
