Whenever we buy garden furniture, we don’t only want it to be comfortable and look stylish. We also want it to last!
This means that we need to make sure that no matter what the weather may throw at it, it’s going to stand the test of time. This is particularly true if you have invested a fair amount of money in your furniture of choice.
But how do you start protecting your teak bench, or any other variety of garden furniture that you may have invested in? Let’s take a look at some of the best ways to keep your benches, chairs or garden table looking fresh this summer.
Wooden Garden Furniture
Whilst wooden furniture has its very own natural oils in it, which help it to find the elements, it will still need a helping hand in order to make sure that it looks its best.
It is a good idea to clean your wooden garden furniture with hot soapy water or a specially designed cleaning product. You should only have to do this at the beginning and end of the season. You are also going to need to dust off the furniture, this can be done on a much more regular basis.
Something that’s much more important is using protective paint or oils on your wooden furniture, especially if it stands outside most of the time. This will not only make it look brand new. It also protects it from the weather.
Metal Garden Furniture
Compared to wooden garden furniture, metal garden furniture is relatively easy to take care of. In the most part, you are going to need to simply clean it with hot soapy water, or, if you have one a pressure washer.
Steel garden furniture is prone to rust if it has any scratches or dents in it, which means that you need to keep an eye on this and treat it with steel wool and an exterior metal paint as soon as you spot it.
Aluminium garden furniture isn’t prone to rust, however, that doesn’t mean that it comes without its issues. Instead, you may find that it has aluminium oxidation, which happens over time. This particular process may affect the colour of the furniture, but don’t worry, it’s just an aesthetic issue and won’t affect how durable and strong is.
Rattan Garden Furniture
When it comes to garden furniture, one of the simplest options rattan. This particular material is made to be both weather and UV resistant, which means that both rain and sun isn’t going to have too much of an impact on its look and condition.
That said, if you have noticed that your furniture looks a little grubby, you may want to give it a clean with some soapy water, before letting it dry off in the sunshine.
Another thing to keep in mind with rattan furniture is that it is often combined with a steel frame, and as we have already covered, steel can rust over time. This means that you need to follow the care instructions that we have already outlined above.
Garden furniture is the ideal addition to any outdoor space. Not only does it give you somewhere to sit when the weather is good, but it can help you to create a family seating area that you can all enjoy together. Whether you opt for wooden garden furniture, metal garden furniture, rattan garden furniture or even just one of those basic plastic sets, one thing is for sure. You are going to want to do your best to look after it, and make sure that it lasts as long as possible.
So why not try out these tips for yourself and see if you can create a garden seating area that your entire family can enjoy and be proud of?
